History

Stephan Moreno established Tacos Moreno in 1982. The original Midtown shop on Water Street has a hole-in-the-wall feel and a lunchtime line, according to Santa Cruz's community wiki. The business added a location on 41st Avenue in Capitola and a counter at UC Santa Cruz's Merrill College, which has made it a fixture for students.

Recognition

In Good Times' 2023 Best of Santa Cruz County poll, Tacos Moreno won best Mexican cuisine for the Capitola area and was a runner-up for best taquería in Santa Cruz. The menu includes both meat and vegetarian dishes.
