Tacos Oscar

From WikiTacos, the taco encyclopedia · Taquería

Tacos Oscar is a taquería in Oakland's Temescal district that grew out of a shipping-container pop-up and is known for a frequently changing, vegetable-forward taco menu. It has held a MICHELIN Bib Gourmand since 2021.

History

The business began as a pop-up operating from a shipping-container kitchen before settling into a permanent restaurant in Temescal, reached from an alley off 40th Street. The MICHELIN Guide added it to its California Bib Gourmand list in 2021, and it remained on the list in the 2025 and 2026 editions.

Tacos and tostadas are written on a chalkboard and rotate with the seasons. Braised pork shoulder with avocado-tomatillo salsa and chicharrones has been a recurring item, as has slow-cooked barbacoa and a mole amarillo taco. The kitchen gives unusual weight to vegan tacos: charred broccoli with a cashew-based cheese, romano beans with a peanut and chile de árbol salsa, and calabacitas with salsa macha have all appeared. According to KRON4, most of the food is gluten free unless marked otherwise, and the restaurant opens Thursday through Monday.
