Tacos y Consomé
Tacos y Consomé is a morning barbacoa stand in central Oaxaca City that serves beef barbacoa cooked with avocado leaves, with a second location facing the Botanical Garden.
Overview
Oaxaca Travel Tips lists Tacos y Consomé (its sign is also spelled Consume) in the city center and says it has a second location across from the Botanical Garden. The main stand runs from morning until early afternoon, and the second one opens around noon. The specialty is beef barbacoa cooked with avocado leaves, which give the meat an anise-like aroma, served in tacos with a cup of consomé, the broth collected during the slow cooking. The guide gives no street address or founding date.
Context
Oaxaca de Juárez has its own taco culture built on local ingredients such as tasajo (thin salted beef), cecina enchilada (chile-rubbed pork), chorizo, quesillo and chile de agua, served alongside the tlayudas and memelas the state is known for. Street carts are not allowed to operate in the city on Wednesdays, although the rule is often relaxed on holidays.
