Tamales Acapulco Doña Tere
Tamales Acapulco Doña Tere is an East Oakland food truck run by Teresa Mondragon, known for Guerrero-style tamales and tacos de canasta.
Overview
KQED's 2019 survey of Fruitvale's regional Mexican trucks profiled Tamales Acapulco Doña Tere, parked at 4559 International Blvd. The truck is run by Teresa Mondragon, called Doña Tere, and its cooking reflects Guerrero and south-central Mexico.
Its best-known items are tamales de mole rojo and tacos de canasta, the soft "basket tacos" that are filled, stacked and steamed in a cloth-lined basket so the tortillas soak up fat and flavor. The truck also sells tortas and pupusas.
History
KQED reported that Mondragon was part of a group of vendors who, nearly two decades before the article, helped change the rules governing street food vending in Fruitvale. That effort is part of the history that made International Boulevard one of the densest taco-truck corridors in the Bay Area.
