Taqueria El Grullense

From WikiTacos, the taco encyclopedia · Taquería

Taqueria El Grullense is a local chain of late-night taquerías on the San Francisco Peninsula, with a location on El Camino Real in Redwood City, serving street-cart-style tacos.

Overview

KQED's Bay Area Bites described El Grullense in 2017 as a Peninsula chain with many locations, a number of them open late into the night. Its Redwood City branch on El Camino Real kept hours stretching from early morning to past midnight, making it one of the area's latest-closing taquerías. KQED included it in a guide to favorite taco spots south of San Francisco.

The tacos are modeled on Mexican street carts: small corn tortillas topped with chopped onion, cilantro and salsa verde. Alongside carnitas and carne asada, the menu covers the offal and specialty cuts that street taquerías are known for, including cabeza (beef cheek), lengua (beef tongue) and tripas (beef intestines). The chain is sometimes referred to as Tacos El Grullense.
