Taquería El Zamorano

Also known as: Taqueria El Zamorano

Taquería El Zamorano is a taquería on West Warner Avenue in Santa Ana known for serving potato tacos throughout the year.

Overview

El Zamorano takes its name from the people of Zamora, Michoacán. OC Weekly's 2015 guide to Orange County tacos listed it on West Warner Avenue and recommended its potato tacos, noting that the shop offers them year-round rather than only during Lent, when meatless tacos are in highest demand at Mexican restaurants.

Potato tacos

Tacos de papa are among the most common meatless tacos in Mexico. Potatoes are boiled and mashed, often with onion, chile or a little cheese, then spooned into corn tortillas that are either folded and fried crisp, as tacos dorados, or warmed soft. They are typically topped with shredded lettuce or cabbage, salsa, crema and crumbled cheese. Because many Catholic families avoid meat on the Fridays of Lent, taquerías in Santa Ana and elsewhere add potato, bean and seafood tacos in the weeks before Easter; El Zamorano's choice to keep them on the menu every day is what drew the paper's attention.
