Overview

Taqueria Santa Rosa operates at 1950 Mendocino Ave., on the city's north side near Santa Rosa Junior College. Sonoma Magazine's survey of al pastor tacos in the county called it the best "old-school" option, describing it as a longtime local favorite that does much of its business in takeout, and joked that orders often get eaten before customers make it home.

Context

Mendocino Avenue runs north from downtown past the junior college campus and is home to many inexpensive restaurants. Older taquerías such as this one tend to follow the classic Northern California format of a counter, a steam table of meats and a menu of tacos, burritos and plates.
