Taquería Tapatía
Taquería Tapatía is a late-night taquería in Santa Ana known for inexpensive al pastor tacos, which Gustavo Arellano once called the best taquería in Orange County.
Overview
Tapatío is the term for something or someone from Guadalajara, and Taquería Tapatía belongs to the long line of Jalisco-rooted taquerías that define Santa Ana, the county's largest Latino city. In 2008 Gustavo Arellano, writing in OC Weekly, declared it the best taquería in Orange County. In 2011 he noted that it had been among the last places in the county selling tacos for under a dollar, and he listed outlets on South Bristol Street and West First Street. The 2015 OC Weekly taco guide described it as a late-night stop that grows busiest near closing time.
Menu
The signature is the al pastor taco, chile-marinated pork served simply with onion and cilantro; Arellano described the meat as tender with a faint taste of pineapple and citrus. Al pastor, a Mexico City creation descended from Lebanese shawarma, is cooked on a vertical spit in its classic form and sliced to order.
