Also known as: Taqueria Zamora

Taquería Zamora is a taquería on South Main Street in Santa Ana known for oversized tacos on large handmade corn tortillas.

Overview

Zamora is a city in Michoacán, and the taquería's name reflects the Michoacán roots shared by many Santa Ana taco shops. OC Weekly has twice singled it out. In 2011 Gustavo Arellano ranked its taco fourth among the county's ten great tacos, describing a huge handmade corn tortilla buried under a generous portion of juicy grilled meat and suggesting it might be the largest taco around. The paper's 2015 guide called the result a face taco, a reference to the size, and praised the simplicity of plain grilled meat on corn.

The emphasis is on portion size and on tortillas pressed by hand rather than bought from a factory. Handmade tortillas are typically thicker and softer than machine-made ones, which helps them hold up under heavy fillings of grilled meat topped with onion, cilantro and salsa.
