Taquizas La Paloma

From WikiTacos, the taco encyclopedia · Taquería

Taquizas La Paloma is a family-run taco truck in an industrial district of Salinas, California, known for a Sinaloa-style tostada called the vampira.

History

Monterey County Weekly writer Mark C. Anderson profiled the truck in 2014, when it parked on Griffin Street near a stack of tractor tires. Marilu Garcia, her husband Jesus Perez and her brother Raul had taken it over from relatives about a year earlier and expanded the menu from tacos to burritos, quesadillas and tortas. Garcia and her brother shared cooking duties; she had previously worked about fifteen years at La Plaza Bakery in Salinas. The truck's current status could not be confirmed.

The standout was the vampira, a Sinaloa-style crisp tortilla with melted cheese topped with chorizo, carnitas, herbs, onion and hot salsa. Tacos included carne asada, al pastor, fish and shrimp, the seafood versions finished with guacamole and red chile. Pickled radishes and roasted jalapeños came on the side.
