The Taco Stand

From WikiTacos, the taco encyclopedia · Taquería

The Taco Stand is a San Diego-based chain of Tijuana-inspired taco counters, with locations across San Diego County including La Jolla, downtown and Encinitas.

Overview

The Taco Stand serves a short menu modeled on the street taquerías of Baja California. Customers order at a counter and can sit at a bar facing the cooks, where corn tortillas are pressed fresh and pork al pastor turns on a vertical spit. The business is owned by Showa Hospitality, and its culinary director, Pancho Ibáñez, previously worked as a senior chef to Enrique Olvera at Pujol in Mexico City.

The signature items are al pastor tacos and Baja-style fish tacos made with beer-battered fish. The menu also includes carne asada, a California burrito filled with carne asada and french fries, a salsa bar with chipotle crema, and churros for dessert. The Encinitas shop on Coast Highway 101 is one of several locations in the county.
