TJ Oyster Bar
TJ Oyster Bar is a Baja-style seafood restaurant in Bonita, in the South Bay of San Diego County, run by the Jazo family and known for octopus and fish tacos.
History
The restaurant began in a very small space on Bonita Road, where the owners tenderized octopus by hand, and later moved about a block away into a much larger building. During the 2008 recession the Jazo family cut the price of fish tacos to 99 cents, a move remembered in local coverage. The Bonita location is walk-in only with table service.
Menu
The kitchen draws on the seafood stands of Tijuana and Ensenada. Its best-known tacos are pulpo (octopus) and battered Baja-style fish; a stingray taco has also appeared on the menu. Other staples include smoked tuna fries topped with cheese, tomato-based seafood cocktails, campechana with scallops, shrimp and crab, and shrimp aguachile made with serrano chiles.
