Tlayudas Doña Flavia
Tlayudas Doña Flavia is an evening tlayuda and taco spot in Oaxaca City known for grilled meats such as tasajo, ribs and flank steak.
Overview
The Infatuation lists Tlayudas Doña Flavia at Calle Pensamientos 418 in the Reforma neighborhood. A 2021 Dónde Ir guide gave an address on the Carretera Internacional in San Francisco Tutla, east of the center, and listed hours of 7 p.m. to midnight, Monday to Saturday; the business may operate more than one location.
Menu
The tlayuda, a large, thin, toasted corn tortilla spread with asiento (unrefined pork lard) and beans and topped with quesillo, is the main product. Doña Flavia offers more grilled proteins than many tlayuderías, including ribs and flank steak. The Infatuation calls the tasajo version the classic and also recommends one with chapulines (grasshoppers). Dónde Ir notes that the menu includes tacos of arrachera, costilla and al pastor alongside the tlayudas with chorizo, tasajo or cecina.
Oaxaca de Juárez has its own taco culture built on local ingredients such as tasajo (thin salted beef), cecina enchilada (chile-rubbed pork), chorizo, quesillo and chile de agua, served alongside the tlayudas and memelas the state is known for. Street carts are not allowed to operate in the city on Wednesdays, although the rule is often relaxed on holidays.
