Overview

Umbrella Taco opened in October 2020 at 7461 Melrose Avenue, on the shopping strip between Fairfax and Hollywood. The Infatuation reviewed it that December, when many Los Angeles restaurants were operating for takeout, and noted that customers could order ahead online.

Tacos are the main focus, but the review highlighted the tamales, credited to chef Juan Catalan. Three varieties were offered: pork shoulder in tomatillo sauce, chicken in a mole from Teloloapan in the state of Guerrero, and a vegetarian version. A trio of all three was the recommended order, priced at $9 at the time. The Infatuation listed the shop as a lunch and cheap-eats option.
