Yucatasia
Yucatasia is a small restaurant on Mission Street in San Francisco serving Yucatecan dishes, including salbutes topped with pork head meat.
Overview
Yucatasia focuses on the food of the Yucatán Peninsula, a regional cuisine less common in San Francisco than the Jalisco and Michoacán styles that dominate the Mission. It sits next door to Piglet & Co., and that restaurant's chef named Yucatasia his favorite tacos in the city in a 2025 San Francisco Standard survey.
Menu
The dish most often recommended is the salbute de cabeza: a puffed, crisp-fried tortilla topped with meat from the pig's head. Salbutes are a classic Yucatecan street snack, closely related to the panucho, and are usually garnished with pickled red onion, lettuce and tomato. The restaurant's focus on the peninsula's antojitos gives the Mission District one of its relatively rare Yucatecan menus.
