Carnitas El Rincon

From WikiTacos, the taco encyclopedia · Taquería

Carnitas El Rincon is a Michoacán-style carnitas taquería on El Camino Real in Redwood City, part of a small Bay Area chain.

Overview

Carnitas El Rincon opened its Redwood City location in early 2020 at 999 El Camino Real, a space that had previously held an outpost of Taqueria El Grullense, according to the Peninsula Foodist column of Almanac Online. The family-owned business describes itself as operating since 2004 and focused on the traditions of Michoacán. At the time it had seven taquerías around the Bay Area, including locations in San Jose, Hayward and Vallejo.

The specialty is carnitas sold by the pound, along with other cuts of the pig, such as stomach, skin and rind, plus chicharrones and braised pork feet. A combination plate pairs a half pound of carnitas with rice, beans, tortillas and a drink. The menu also includes tacos, burritos, quesadillas and rice plates, and weekend specials such as braised chicken, barbacoa and consommé.

Context

Michoacán is the home of carnitas, pork slowly cooked in its own fat, and taquerías that sell it by weight are common in Mexican-American neighborhoods across California.
