Chayito
Chayito is a tacos de cazuela spot in central Oaxaca City that also serves breakfast and a weekday set lunch.
Overview
Oaxaca Travel Tips lists Chayito under tacos de cazuela, tacos filled from clay pots of guisados (stews) prepared earlier in the day. Among the stews it names pork rib in chile morita salsa. The kitchen also serves breakfast dishes such as enfrijoladas, chilaquiles, memelas and tortas, and on weekdays offers a menú del día, a fixed set lunch, from 1 to 5 p.m. The guide gives no street address or founding date.
Context
Oaxaca de Juárez has its own taco culture built on local ingredients such as tasajo (thin salted beef), cecina enchilada (chile-rubbed pork), chorizo, quesillo and chile de agua, served alongside the tlayudas and memelas the state is known for. Street carts are not allowed to operate in the city on Wednesdays, although the rule is often relaxed on holidays.
