Guisados
Guisados is a Los Angeles taco chain, founded in Boyle Heights in 2010, that serves home-style Mexican braises on handmade corn tortillas.
History
Guisados opened its first shop on César E. Chávez Avenue in Boyle Heights in 2010. Time Out credits Armando de la Torre and his son with founding it, and the company's website names the De La Torre Restaurant Group as the business behind the brand. It grew into a regional chain with shops in Echo Park, Downtown, West Hollywood, Burbank, Beverly Hills, Pasadena, Hermosa Beach, Long Beach and Venice. The same team later opened the seafood window Playita in Silver Lake.
In 2012 Guisados tied with Mariscos Jalisco for first place in L.A. TACO's Taco Madness, finishing with exactly the same vote total.
Menu
The format centers on guisados, stewed and braised fillings ladled onto palm-sized tortillas pressed to order. Examples include chicken tinga, mole poblano and chicharrón, and a sampler of six small tacos lets diners try several braises at once. The menu also offers quesadillas made with queso panela and, at most locations, breakfast.
