Mariscos Jalisco
Mariscos Jalisco is a seafood taco truck operation founded by Raúl Ortega in Boyle Heights, Los Angeles, in 2001, famous for its deep-fried shrimp taco.
History
Raúl Ortega started the Jalisco-inspired truck on East Olympic Boulevard in Boyle Heights in 2001, according to the MICHELIN Guide. The business later added trucks in Downtown Los Angeles and Mid-City and a sit-down restaurant on East Holt Avenue in Pomona, which the 2026 MICHELIN Guide USA lists as a Bib Gourmand.
In L.A. TACO's Taco Madness tournament the truck tied with Guisados for first place in 2012, with an identical vote count,. L.A. TACO described it as a local legend for a decade before it gained a citywide following.
Menu
The signature taco de camarón is a corn tortilla folded around shrimp and fried until crisp, then topped with a red salsa and sliced avocado. The menu also includes ceviche and aguachile tostadas, among them the Poseidón tostada combining ceviche, octopus and shrimp aguachile. Time Out notes that the Boyle Heights and Downtown trucks are cash only.
