Overview

Coal Bros was listed at 1310 Morena Boulevard in Linda Vista in the San Diego Reader's 2019 taco issue. Its cooking borrows from two grilling traditions: the meats are cooked on a Santa Maria-style grill, the open-fire rig associated with California's Central Coast, and finished over wood-fired mesquite, the fuel favored by carne asada stands in northern Mexico.

The Reader recommended the ribeye tacos, and a dish called the Taco Mamón, built around a guisado of smoked tuna. Smoked tuna is a familiar ingredient on the Baja California coast, where it is often served as a snack or in tacos.
