Copas
Copas is an upscale Mexican restaurant on Market Street in San Francisco's Castro District that specializes in Tijuana- and Ensenada-style tacos and grilled meats.
Overview
The restaurant takes its cues from the cooking of Baja California. The San Francisco Chronicle has described its tacos as Tijuana and Ensenada in style, with smoky meats grilled over fire, and pointed to it as one of two Castro restaurants serving Tijuana-style tacos after Tacos El Tucan announced a location nearby. It serves dinner from Wednesday through Sunday and adds a midday service on weekends.
Fish tacos
Its Ensenada-style fish tacos, served two to an order, placed fourth in the Chronicle's ranking of the ten best fish tacos in the Bay Area by critic Cesar Hernandez. The fish is coated in a slightly sweet batter and topped with a slaw of cabbage and fennel, a variation on the shredded cabbage traditionally used in Ensenada. Copas's more polished setting distinguishes it from the counter-service taquerías that dominate the Chronicle's lists.
