Doña Mary La Gritona
Doña Mary, nicknamed la gritona (the yeller), is the namesake of Tacos Doña Mary La Gritona, a family-run breakfast taquería in downtown Monterrey with a Michelin Bib Gourmand.
Biography
The taquería on Avenida Francisco I. Madero in central Monterrey is named after Doña Mary, whose nickname comes from her habit of good-humoredly scolding customers who slow down the line. The family business has operated for more than twenty years and makes flour and corn tortillas on site, serving barbacoa and other daily fillings with a stone-ground salsa molcajeteada.
In 2024 the taquería received a Bib Gourmand in the first Michelin Guide Mexico, and it kept the award in 2025 and 2026. Her full name is not given in the Michelin listing.
