From WikiTacos, the taco encyclopedia · Taquería

El Barrio Cantina is a modern Mexican restaurant and agave bar on East 4th Street's Retro Row in Long Beach, California, whose potato taquitos were named among the Los Angeles Times's 101 best tacos in 2024.

Overview

El Barrio Cantina occupies 1731 E. 4th Street, on the Retro Row strip. It presents itself as a modern Mexican restaurant that reworks traditional dishes, and it operates as a full cantina with a bar built around tequila and mezcal; L.A. TACO, which ranked it in the top ten of a list of the region's best Mexican restaurants, noted that it also turns into a nightclub on weekends.

The Infatuation, in its guide to Long Beach restaurants, highlighted a carne asada-style ribeye with roasted tomato salsa and optional house-made Sonoran flour tortillas, scallops in aguachile, and crispy potato tacos with crema and salsa verde. The Long Beach Post reported that its taquitos de papa earned a place on the Los Angeles Times's 2024 list of the 101 best tacos, one of two Long Beach entries. Other dishes include salmon chicharrón and cauliflower esquites.
