El Toro Bravo Tortillería
El Toro Bravo is a tortillería and restaurant on West 19th Street in Costa Mesa serving home-style Mexican food and tacos on its own tortillas.
Overview
El Toro Bravo combines a tortilla factory with a small restaurant, a format common in Mexican neighborhoods of Southern California, where tortillerías sell fresh tortillas by the kilo and dishes from a steam table or grill. OC Weekly's 2015 guide to the county's tacos listed it on the Westside of Costa Mesa, the city's historically working-class and Latino district, near newer establishments such as the restaurant SOCIAL and the Boathouse Collective, and recommended its home-style cooking.
Menu
The advantage of a tortillería-restaurant is that tortillas reach the plate within hours of being pressed. Tacos are typically filled with guisados, stews such as chile verde, chile colorado and chicharrón in salsa, as well as carne asada and carnitas.
