El Toro Bravo (Tustin)
El Toro Bravo is a Mexican restaurant on El Camino Way in Tustin that shares its name, logo and origin story with the El Toro Bravo tortillería in Costa Mesa.
Overview
The Tustin El Toro Bravo is at 1450 El Camino Way. Gustavo Arellano placed it on OC Weekly's 2016 list of the county's great old-school taquerías alongside the Costa Mesa El Toro Bravo on West 19th Street. Both carry the same name and logo and tell the same origin story, tied to a branch of the Bonilla family, the clan behind the El Toro chain of Mexican restaurants in Orange County. Arellano cautioned, however, that given the family's internal feuds the two businesses might not actually be connected.
Relationship to Costa Mesa
The Costa Mesa location, which is known primarily as a tortillería, is documented in a separate article. Arellano's listing for Tustin also gave the website eltorobravomexicanfood.com, while CBS Los Angeles listed eltorobravo.net for the Costa Mesa business, another sign that the two operate independently.
