El Vilsito

From WikiTacos, the taco encyclopedia · Taquería
Also known as: Tacos El Vilsito

El Vilsito is a taquería in the Narvarte neighborhood of Mexico City that operates as an auto repair shop by day and a late-night al pastor counter after dark.

Overview

El Vilsito is best known for its double life: the garage on Avenida Universidad services cars during the day, and in the afternoon and evening the space turns into a busy taquería. Despite the improvised setting it is well organized, with ample seating, a large staff, television screens, a grill and several spinning trompos. It appeared in Netflix's Taco Chronicles and has held a Michelin Bib Gourmand in every edition of the Mexico guide since 2024.

Al pastor is the main attraction: pork shaved from the trompo onto corn tortillas with pineapple, onion and cilantro, served con todo. Gringas, in which pastor and melted cheese are folded into a flour tortilla, are another house staple. The kitchen keeps very late hours, which has made it a favorite stop after midnight.
