La Flama

From WikiTacos, the taco encyclopedia · Taquería

La Flama is a pastor taquería on Doctor Vértiz in the Portales Norte neighborhood of Mexico City.

Overview

Chilango included La Flama, at Dr. Vértiz 1492 in Portales Norte, in its taco tour of Narvarte and its surroundings, noting that it lies a couple of kilometers south of Narvarte proper. The specialty is the taco al pastor, the tortillas are made to order, and there is plenty of seating. It opens mid-afternoon and stays open past midnight, later on weekends.

Context

Portales, in the Benito Juárez borough, borders Narvarte and shares its dense street-taco culture. In the pastor tradition of the capital, the meat is shaved from the spit onto small corn tortillas and finished with onion, cilantro, a sliver of pineapple and salsa. Taquerías that press tortillas to order, as La Flama does, are valued because the tortilla is served fresh from the comal rather than reheated.
