Lola 55
Lola 55 is a taco restaurant in San Diego's East Village, owned by Frank Vizcarra, that holds a Bib Gourmand from the Michelin Guide and was named the city's best taco shop by San Diego Magazine in 2019.
History
Lola 55 opened as a fast-casual taco shop in East Village with chef Andrew Bent in the kitchen. San Diego Magazine's 2019 taco issue named it the year's best taco shop, pointing to ingredient quality, the cooking and the price. Owner Frank Vizcarra has sent his cooks on research trips across Mexico. In late 2025 the company announced an 8,800-square-foot location at Liberty Station designed by JSa, the Mexico City architecture firm behind Pujol, along with plans to convert the East Village original to full service with a taco omakase and tasting menus.
Menu
San Diego Magazine's 2025 survey of chefs' favorite tacos cited, through restaurateur Deborah Scott, a mesquite-grilled chicken taco with chicharrón, cucumber, coconut rice and a peanut salsa macha. Vizcarra himself has named the crisp chicken tacos at Las Cuatro Milpas as his own favorite.
