Lola Gaspar
Lola Gaspar is a bar and restaurant on West Second Street in downtown Santa Ana known for creative tacos, including a buttermilk-battered avocado taco.
Overview
OC Weekly's 2015 guide to the county's tacos listed it on West Second Street and recommended a vegetarian taco: avocado dipped in buttermilk batter and fried, then topped with a lemon and Parmesan slaw.
Menu
Fried avocado tacos adapt the technique of the Baja fish taco, substituting slices of avocado for battered fish so that the outside crisps while the inside becomes creamy. The Parmesan slaw is a departure from the cabbage and crema of the traditional fish taco. Downtown Santa Ana's newer restaurants frequently mix the Mexican food of the surrounding neighborhoods with contemporary bar menus, and Lola Gaspar's tacos are an example of that blend.
