Overview

The lonchera operates at two East San José addresses, on Story Road and on Monterey Highway, each open Thursday through Sunday afternoons and evenings. In its ranking of the five greatest al pastor tacos in the Bay Area, the San Francisco Chronicle placed it fifth.

The trucks bring the flavors of Tepatitlán, in the Altos region of Jalisco. Their primary specialty is tacos al vapor, steamed tacos in which corn tortillas and fillings are kept warm and soft in a covered steamer. The trucks also run a trompo for al pastor: the pork is shaved from the spit and then chopped on a plancha before being served on steamed corn tortillas with grilled onions, with pineapple available on request. Güero is a Mexican term for a light-haired or fair-skinned person, a common nickname.
