Tacos El Güero

From WikiTacos, the taco encyclopedia · Taquería

Tacos El Güero is a Monterrey breakfast taco stand, running since 1984, that sets up at the city's weekly street markets.

Overview

Tacos El Güero does not have a fixed storefront. Monterrey Secreto reported in 2024 that it sets up at the Mercado Florida on Thursdays and Saturdays and at the Mercado Nuevo Madero on Sundays. These are mercados rodantes, the rotating street markets held on set days in Monterrey neighborhoods. The business dates to 1984.

El Güero sells tacos mañaneros. The fillings are deshebrada (shredded pork), picadillo, chicharrón, barbacoa, roast pork, machacado and beans.

Machacado, dried beef that is pounded and shredded, is a signature ingredient of Nuevo León. It is most often scrambled with egg at breakfast. Barbacoa and chicharrón are the other fillings found on almost every morning taco menu in the city.

Monterrey Secreto's list includes it alongside larger chains such as Tony's Tacos and Tacos Don Pancho, but El Güero is the only entry that works from market stalls rather than fixed branches.
