Tacos El Tripitrin
Tacos El Tripitrin is a family taquería on Calle Alhóndiga in Mexico City's Centro Histórico, in business for more than 70 years and known for crisp tripa tacos.
History
The taquería has occupied the same spot on Alhóndiga, a few blocks from the Zócalo, since it opened more than seven decades ago under the name Tacos Memo. It was founded by the grandfather of the professional wrestler Giro Gallo. When the third generation took charge, roughly 15 years before Chilango's report, the business was renamed El Tripitrin. Staff call themselves the officials of lucha libre, a nod to the family's ties to wrestling, and Giro Gallo credits the stand with paying for his and his brothers' university studies.
Menu
The menu is short: suadero, longaniza, tripa and campechanos on standard corn tortillas with onion, cilantro and salsa. The tripa is washed, boiled, returned to hot fat, chopped on a wooden block and griddled until golden. The house salsa, nicknamed la huérfana, is known for its heat.
