Tacos Juan
Tacos Juan is a breakfast barbacoa taquería in the Santa Teresita neighborhood of Guadalajara, known for crisp tacos dorados and for having grown from a single stand into a small chain.
Overview
The original Tacos Juan stands at Calle José Clemente Orozco 465 in Santa Teresita, the working-class barrio around the Mercado Santa Tere. It is a roadside counter with an indoor seating area, and the tacos are assembled in view of diners. El Informador lists its hours as 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., in line with the tapatío habit of eating barbacoa in the morning, and travel writers have reported waits of 20 minutes or more at breakfast.
El Diario de un Tragón notes that the business started in Santa Tere and later added branches in Providencia, Sao Paulo, Chapalita, Chapultepec and La Estancia.
Menu
The specialty is barbacoa served in a taco dorado, medio or blando: fully crisped, half-crisped or soft. A version griddled with melted cheese has drawn particular attention from visiting food writers. México Desconocido suggests asking for consomé to dip the tacos, and the house salsas are another point of praise in local guides. Caramelized onions and charred peppers are offered on the side.
The taquería was among the six spots rated highest by the PLAYERS' Restaurant's Choice 2023 council, as reported by El Informador in 2024.
