Tacos Villa de Santiago
Tacos Villa de Santiago is a family-run chain of tacos mañaneros in the Monterrey metropolitan area, founded in 1994 and known for barbacoa and chicharrón.
History
Monterrey Secreto and México Desconocido date the business to 1994. According to Como Comí, it began as a food cart run by the parents of the current operators, the Alanís brothers, outside the Tec Garza Lagüera preparatory school. It has since grown to more than ten branches in the metropolitan area. Como Comí named branches in Villa de Santiago, Carretera Nacional, San Pedro, Contry, San Nicolás and Cumbres. The fillings are still prepared in Villa de Santiago, the town south of Monterrey that gives the business its name, and are delivered to the branches every day.
Menu
The tacos are mañaneros, the breakfast tacos of Nuevo León. Barbacoa and chicharrón are the best-known fillings, and the menu lists some 25 guisados. Branches also make egg dishes to order and sell coffee, aguas frescas and desserts, and there is home delivery.
Como Comí praised its consistent flavor, cleanliness and packaging. It noted that the prices are often criticized but argued that they reflect payroll and the cost of running many branches.
