From WikiTacos, the taco encyclopedia · Taquería
Also known as: Elvira

Tacos y Gorditas Elvira is a lunch counter in Guadalajara's Mercado Alcalde known for chicharrón and costilla tacos and gorditas, awarded a Michelin Bib Gourmand in 2026.

Overview

Elvira is a casual stall in the Mercado Alcalde, the same market that houses Birriería David. Customers take a numbered ticket, wait to be called and can watch tortillas and gorditas being shaped and cooked. It was one of the Jalisco newcomers awarded a Bib Gourmand in the 2026 Michelin Guide Mexico.

The menu is short and some items sell out by mid-afternoon, so arriving early is advised. Chicharrón and costilla are the must-order fillings, served as tacos or gorditas, with salsas, onion and lime at the counter. Fresh juices and café de olla are available. It does not accept cards.
