Taquería El Amanecer is a lucha libre-themed taquería in Mérida's Lucas de Gálvez market owned by the retired Yucatecan wrestler Súper Piloto.

Overview

Posta's guide to taquerías in central Mérida places El Amanecer inside the Mercado Lucas de Gálvez, the city's main traditional market. Its owner is the former Yucatecan wrestler known as Súper Piloto, and the stall's colorful decoration draws on Mexican lucha libre.

The specialties are carne asada tacos and the torta Súper Piloto, filled with grilled beef, melted cheese and hot salsa. Posta reported that the market taquerías it reviewed open weekdays from morning until early evening and cost no more than about 100 pesos per person.

Context

Mérida's markets and loncherías are the traditional places to eat cochinita pibil, lechón and relleno negro in tacos, panuchos and tortas, usually for breakfast.
