Taquería La Lupita
Taquería La Lupita is a family cochinita pibil stall inside the Mercado de Santiago in Mérida, Yucatán, open for more than five decades.
History
La Lupita was founded by Waldemar Solís and his wife, Olga Romero, in the Mercado de Santiago, the municipal market on Calle 57 a few blocks from Mérida's historic center. México Desconocido and Posta both describe more than 50 years of operation. It is now kept by chef Pedro Pablo Medina and Guadalupe Solís. The business has no branches and operates in the morning, from early breakfast until early afternoon.
Menu
Cochinita pibil and lechón, served in tacos and tortas with pickled red onion and fresh salsas, are the main draw. The stall also serves tacos of relleno negro and turkey in escabeche, salbutes and panuchos, sopa de lima, and a dish of the day that rotates through Yucatecan home cooking such as pork and beans, battered pig's feet, red bean potage and puchero, with mondongo on weekends.
