Also known as: La Mexicana

Taquería La Mexicana is a Monterrey taquería, operating since 1949, known for tacos al vapor and a traditional candy shop.

Overview

La Mexicana advertises a tradition dating to 1949 and has four branches in Monterrey. The favorite, according to Publimetro, is the downtown location on Calle Vicente Guerrero, which is known for its colorful parking lot and its traditional dulcería, or candy shop. Publimetro calls it one of the most typical taquerías in the city.

The specialty is tacos al vapor, small steamed tacos. Fillings include chicharrón, deshebrada (shredded beef), carnitas, picadillo, potato and beans, served with a coarse green salsa martajada. Steamed tacos are a Monterrey breakfast and lunch staple and a counterpart to the tacos de canasta of central Mexico.
