Taquería Los Pericos

From WikiTacos, the taco encyclopedia · Taquería

Taquería Los Pericos is a taquería near the Pacific Garden Mall in downtown Santa Cruz, California, known for Jalisco-style tacos on homemade tortillas and a free salsa bar.

History

Los Pericos has operated on a busy corner a couple of blocks from Pacific Avenue for close to twenty years, according to Islands magazine, and has since added a location in Aptos. Head cook Jose Ruiz draws on the cooking of his native Jalisco. Good Times readers placed it as a runner-up for best Mexican food in Santa Cruz in 2023.

Tacos come on two warm homemade corn tortillas with carne asada, lengua, al pastor, carnitas or fish. House burritos include the Turbo, with shrimp and pan-fried fish, and the Cali, which swaps rice for french fries. The complimentary salsa bar usually holds pico de gallo, a smoky chipotle salsa and salsa verde, plus jalapeños and escabeche. Breakfast is served in the morning.
