Terraza Amarilla is an open-air Yucatecan taquería on Avenida Cupules in Mérida, across from the city's newer convention center.

Overview

Mid City Beat's guide to Mérida taquerías calls Terraza Amarilla a classic and places it on Avenida Cupules across from the new convention center, with an open terrace. The menu covers the Yucatecan staples: cochinita, relleno negro (turkey in a blackened chile paste), queso relleno, panuchos, salbutes and tacos, with fresh juices to drink.

Context

Mérida's markets and loncherías are the traditional places to eat cochinita pibil, lechón and relleno negro in tacos, panuchos and tortas, usually for breakfast. Panuchos are fried tortillas stuffed with black beans, while salbutes are puffed fried tortillas without the filling; both are topped with meat, lettuce, tomato and pickled onion. Queso relleno is a Yucatecan dish of Edam cheese stuffed with spiced ground pork.
