El Güero Alteño is a barbacoa taquería chain based in Santa Margarita, Zapopan, with about ten outlets across the Guadalajara metropolitan area.

Overview

El Diario de un Tragón gives El Güero Alteño's main address as Santa Esther 204 at the Periférico in Colonia Santa Margarita, Zapopan. Its 2024 article lists nine more branches, including Avenida Acueducto 1100 in Jardines del Valle, Calzada Independencia Norte 4449 in Huentitán el Bajo near the university's CUAAD campus, and Avenida Américas 1649 in Providencia. Others are on Arco del Triunfo, Avenida Manuel J. Clouthier, Camino Bosques de San Isidro, Avenida Santa Margarita, Avenida de la Mancha and Periférico Norte.

The chain is built on barbacoa but has a broad menu. Some branches keep long hours, so its barbacoa is not limited to the morning, unlike many tapatío barbacoa stands.

The name alteño refers to Los Altos, the highland region of eastern Jalisco.
