The US$25,000 Grand Velas taco

Grand Velas Los Cabos advertised a US$25,000 taco in 2017. Its April 11 press release described a gold-infused corn tortilla with Kobe beef, lobster, black-truffle brie and Almas Beluga caviar, plus a morita-chile salsa with tequila and kopi luwak coffee. The resort called it the world’s priciest taco. This is a dated promotional claim, not an independently verified current world record or a confirmed current menu price.

A charity event is different from a menu sale

The same resort announcement described an April 28, 2017 benefit for the Los Cabos Children’s Foundation, with the taco and a tequila shot offered as a drawing prize. Ticket and raffle proceeds were expected to exceed the advertised taco price. That fundraising total should not be confused with the price paid for a single taco, or the value of an entire tequila bottle.

José’s Taco: US$25 per piece

The Bazaar’s published Bar Centro dinner menu, checked October 11, 2026, lists José’s Taco at US$25 per piece. The bite combines jamón Ibérico de bellota, Ossetra caviar, gold leaf and nori. It is a chef’s reinterpretation using ham and seaweed rather than a conventional corn-tortilla taco. This documented luxury menu example is not presented as a world record, and the online menu does not establish future availability.

Billionaire Dubai king crab tacos: AED200 for three

Billionaire Dubai’s archived 2024 à-la-carte menu lists three king crab tacos with spicy mayonnaise and tobiko sauce for AED200. The menu states that its prices include the listed municipality fee, service charge and VAT. This is a three-piece order, not AED200 per taco. The archived document was checked October 11, 2026; it is evidence of a historical menu price, not confirmation of today’s price.

Billionaire Dubai Wagyu tacos: AED140 for three

The same archived 2024 menu lists three braised Wagyu beef tacos with guacamole sauce for AED140. Together with the king crab option, it illustrates luxury ingredients in a restaurant taco format. These are menu-price comparisons in their original currency, not an exhaustive ranking of the world’s most expensive tacos.

A luxury taco tour in Riviera Nayarit

In a March 1, 2019 release, Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit announced a US$100-per-person progressive dinner through its restaurants. Courses included a ribeye taco on blue corn with guacamole and toasted maguey worms, paired with mezcal, and a Peking duck taco with sake. The price covered the experience and pairings, not one taco; present-day availability and pricing have not been confirmed.

Puesto’s official taco overview describes made-to-order blue corn tortillas and a crisp melted-cheese layer. Its featured fillings include filet mignon and a Surf & Turf Héroe taco. This is an example of a contemporary restaurant approach to tacos rather than a world-price-record claim. Check the selected restaurant’s current menu for ingredients and prices.

How this guide compares fancy tacos

Ingredient rarity, elaborate service and publicity can all raise a price, but cost alone does not establish taste or cultural importance.
