La 89

From WikiTacos, the taco encyclopedia · Taquería

La 89 is a Roma Norte taquería in Mexico City serving Baja California-inspired carne asada, birria and tortas, recognized with a Michelin Bib Gourmand.

History

La 89 was founded in 2021 by Alejandro Zárate and Bernardo Galindo, who modeled the menu on the taco culture of Ensenada and Tijuana. It entered the Michelin Guide Mexico with a Bib Gourmand in 2025 and retained it in 2026.

The kitchen grills carne asada over charcoal and cooks everything to order. Birria is served as tacos and as quesabirria, with or without consommé, and tortas are built on sturdy bread. Chilango also noted handmade tortillas, beans de la olla and a northern-style guacamole. The bright dining room is simple, with plastic stools and metal tables.
