Tacos de Armando

Tacos de Armando is a carne asada restaurant in Hermosillo, Sonora, that began as a street stall in 1986 and appeared in Netflix's Taco Chronicles.

History

The business was started on 11 September 1986 as a street stall by the father of the current owner, a former butcher who turned to tacos after losing his job. When the stall struggled against franchise competitors, his son Armando Rodríguez Oviedo took over. After disputes with the city over the street location, he rented a vacant lot, took a loan to build bathrooms and improve the site, and on 15 December 2004 reopened as a restaurant, learning to manage staff along the way.

The restaurant was featured in an episode of Las crónicas del taco on Netflix, and politician Adán Augusto López visited in 2023.

Rodríguez sums up the formula as charcoal and meat. Tacos are made with premium cuts such as rib eye and New York strip, some of them imported, grilled over charcoal. The menu includes the house Taco de Armando, the Caramelo with melted cheese, mixed and campechano tacos, bean and papada tacos, quesadillas, queso fundido, guacamole with chicharrón or tripe, and burritos of chilorio, as well as whole steaks.
