Tacos Don Juan

From WikiTacos, the taco encyclopedia · Taquería

Tacos Don Juan is a guisado and grilled-meat taquería at the corner of Juan Escutia and Atlixco in Condesa, Mexico City, which grew out of a butcher shop opened in 1982.

History

The business began in 1982 as the Súper Carnicería Atlixco, a butcher shop opened by Juan Manuel Ramírez Valdivia, who sold meat from the Ferrería slaughterhouse. His son Gerardo started making small tacos from the shop's steaks and gradually added stewed fillings. The taquería grew into a neighborhood fixture, and another son, Juan, runs the counter while lines form on the sidewalk.

The menu changes through the week. Regular offerings include smoked pork chop, milanesa, pork in green mole, bistec, suadero and longaniza, served with rice, frijoles bayos and tortillas. Carnitas appear on Fridays, quesabirrias on weekends and chile relleno on Thursdays. A guacamole salsa is a house favorite, and the beef tongue taco is frequently singled out.
