Tacos El Charro
Tacos El Charro is a long-running downtown Monterrey taquería, open from afternoon into the early morning, known for trompo, bistec and cabrito tacos.
Overview
Tacos El Charro is at the corner of Venustiano Carranza and Aramberri in central Monterrey. México Desconocido's 2026 guide says it has been a local reference for decades. It opens at 2 p.m. and stays open into the early hours.
Menu
The menu covers the classics of Monterrey's evening taquerías: tacos de trompo, bistec, gringas, campechanas and enchiladas. It also serves tacos de cabrito, which brings the city's signature roast goat into a taco.
Trompo is pork marinated in a red adobo and roasted on a vertical spit. In Monterrey it is usually served in small corn tortillas, and a gringa folds the meat with cheese into a flour tortilla. A campechana combines two meats in one taco.
México Desconocido lists it with other downtown classics such as Taquería Juárez and Tacos Primo.
