Tacos El Charro
Tacos El Charro is a late-night, Puebla-style al pastor stand at Mission and 18th streets in San Francisco's Mission District, ranked second among the Bay Area's al pastor tacos by the San Francisco Chronicle.
Overview
The stand sets up on Mission Street at the corner of 18th Street and serves from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m., Wednesday through Sunday. The Chronicle reported that it had debuted in the Mission the year before its ranking was published.
Menu
El Charro specializes in al pastor in the style of the central Mexican state of Puebla. The Chronicle's critic Cesar Hernandez described its adobo marinade as savory rather than sweet and highlighted a red salsa emulsified with habanero chiles, which gives it a creamy texture and strong heat. In his ranking of the five greatest al pastor tacos in the Bay Area he placed it second, behind Tacos Al Pastor Puebla in Oakland. A charro is a traditional Mexican horseman.
