Tacos Joven

From WikiTacos, the taco encyclopedia · Taquería

Tacos Joven is a tacos de canasta stand in the Narvarte neighborhood of Mexico City, in business since 1971.

Overview

Time Out México included Tacos Joven in its list of the city's essential taquerías, noting that it has been in Narvarte since 1971. It specializes in tacos de canasta, the basket tacos that are filled in advance, bathed in oil or lard and stacked in a cloth-lined basket so that they steam in their own heat.

The most popular fillings are chicharrón, shredded beef (deshebrada) and fried potato. Time Out remarked that the tacos are larger than the typical basket taco. As with most canasta vendors, the tacos are inexpensive and sold by the piece, with salsa and pickled garnishes added by the customer.

Context

Narvarte, in the Benito Juárez borough, is a residential middle-class district with a dense concentration of taquerías, and Tacos Joven is among its longest-standing.
