Taquería Cancún

From WikiTacos, the taco encyclopedia · Taquería

Taquería Cancún is a Mission District taquería in San Francisco, California, operating since 1993, known for its burritos, al pastor and shrimp quesadilla.

History

Cancún entered the Mission burrito scene in 1993 and has had locations at Mission and 19th streets and at Mission Street near Fair Avenue, according to Munchies. In FiveThirtyEight's 2014 nationwide burrito bracket, Cancún advanced out of a regional group that also included El Farolito, a rival that is often ranked above it.

The restaurant follows the classic Mission format of foil-wrapped burritos built to order along a steam-table line. Munchies highlighted the al pastor and vegetarian burritos and called the shrimp quesadilla a little-known specialty, and noted the awards displayed on its walls. Together with El Farolito, La Cumbre, La Taqueria and El Castillito, it is usually counted among the long-running shops that define the Mission burrito.
