Also known as: Tijuanero by Tijuanazo

Tijuanazo is a Tijuana-born taco business with carts and stands in San Diego's Hillcrest and Little Italy neighborhoods, run by the second generation of the founding family.

History

Tijuanazo began as a cart in Playas de Tijuana operated by Antonio and Claudia Esquivel. Their daughters, Karime and Aria Esquivel, brought the concept to San Diego, where it operates in Hillcrest and, as Tijuanero by Tijuanazo, from a street cart on a corner of India Street in Little Italy marked by a winking cowboy statue.

The cart serves carne asada tacos piled with guacamole and dressed with habanero salsa on handmade tortillas, buche tacos, beef birria stewed in a vat on the cart, quesotacos and chorizo tostadas. An off-menu option prepares carne asada fantasma style, using griddled cheese in place of the tortilla.
